Clomiphene is an oral, non-steroidal medication and a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) primarily used to treat infertility in women by inducing ovulation. It can also be used off-label to treat male infertility.
Key Uses and Mechanism
Clomiphene works by tricking the brain into thinking estrogen levels are low, which causes the pituitary gland to release more follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). This results in the stimulation of ovarian follicles to grow and mature, leading to egg release (ovulation).
