Description

Myostatin (from the MSTN gene) is a protein primarily made by skeletal muscles that acts as a brake, limiting muscle growth (negative regulation) to prevent muscles from getting too bigWhen myostatin is blocked or deficient, as seen in certain animals and rare human cases, it leads to significant muscle overgrowth (hypertrophy). Researchers are studying myostatin inhibitors as treatments for muscle-wasting diseases like muscular dystrophies, as blocking it could help patients build muscle mass.

Function
    • Regulates Muscle Mass

Myostatin’s main job is to tell your muscles to stop growing once they reach a certain size.

  • Part of TGF-β Family

It belongs to a group of proteins that control tissue growth and development.
