Cagrilintide is an investigational, long-acting synthetic amylin analog designed primarily for chronic weight management and type 2 diabetes. Developed to mimic the hormone amylin to regulate appetite and food intake.
Unlike traditional GLP-1 receptor agonists, Cagrilintide acts as a dual amylin and calcitonin receptor agonist (AMYR/CTR). It suppresses hunger through distinct metabolic pathways:
- Satiety: It targets brain regions that signal fullness.
- Gastric Emptying: It delays stomach emptying to sustain a feeling of being full.
